What can I do to make treatment more effective?

For each visit it is best that you:

  • Do not have a very hot bath, shower, or sauna within 3 to 4 hours (before and after).

  • Do not have any alcohol within 24 hours (before and after).

  • Take no drugs--except those prescribed for routine use by your physician.

  • Avoid wearing make-up and any scent when possible to your first few visits.

  • Set aside enough time to arrive relaxed and arrive at your next destination relaxed.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise directly before or after treatment if it is not your routine.

  • Avoid eating heavily just before or after treatment.

  • If you smoke cigarettes, avoid smoking 3 to 4 hours before and after treatment.

  • Do not drink cold fluids for 4 hours following treatment.

As a general rule, you should follow these guidelines:

  • Avoid smoking, drinking alcohol or caffeinated drinks or using any drugs--except those prescribed by your physician.

  • I strongly recommend that you cut down or eliminate all milk products, refined sugar, and foods that are extremely cold (iced drinks or frozen desserts, for example).

  • Eat an abundance of vegetables and fruits each day, and  combine them properly (I have a combining chart I can give you or get the book Fit for Life). Also drink approximately 2 quarts of water or other fluids (not soda pop) each day.

If receiving the Mayan Uterine and Abdominal Massage, also do the following:

  • Dress comfortably with slacks or shorts which do not have a zipper. If available and comfortable for you, tights are ideal.

  • If you are menstruating, please call so we can assess if treatment is possible or if it will be necessary to reschedule.

How can treatment help manage pain?

In treating clients with pain conditions such as back, neck or shoulder pain, reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), fibromyalgia, arthritis, pain from accidents and other chronic pain conditions, I combine my skills in acupuncture and Asian bodywork (massage) to address the energetic and structural challenges that are presented clinically.

Acupuncture and Asian bodywork have been found both individually and in combination to greatly alleviate the pain associated with these chronic pain conditions. When left untreated, these chronic pain conditions can be debilitating and lead to significant lifestyle limitations.

In a series of treatments which may vary in length from an initial session of two hours to follow-up sessions of an hour, treatment is designed to gradually help address the symptoms as well as the underlying causes which patients may have been holding for many years. The frequency of treatment varies in need from client to client. The initial treatment frequency may vary from twice a week to every three weeks. It is recommended to begin with a series of six to ten treatments and then consider the effectiveness of treatment.  Pain may not diminish immediately.  Treatment requires healing time and repetition to be effective.
