Bodywork Modalities
Marty practices the following bodywork modalities in combination with acupuncture:
- Maya Abdominal Massage
- Chi Nei Tsang
- Medical Qigong
- Shiatsu
Maya Abdominal Massage
This modality addresses the position and health of the pelvic and abdominal organs and frees the flow of blood, lymph, and chi (energy) throughout the body.
An ancient Mayan technique, this bodywork is best known for the correction of the prolapsed, fallen, or tilted uterus and for the prevention and treatment of benign prostate enlargement in men, and for relief of many common digestive disorders.
Chi Nei Tsang
A Taoist abdominal massage designed to provide deep healing,
Chi Nei Tsang works directly on internal dysfunction and energy blocks.
Like acupuncture and other modalities of Chinese medicine,
Chi Nei Tsang is based on the ancient Taoist experiences of the inner and
outer forces that create and maintain life. Healthy and vibrant life depends on
the harmonious, unobstructed movement and transformation of these forces.
In
the human organism, they manifest as three energies: jing or essence; chi and
spirit or shen. Through the work of self-awareness and inner growth, it is
possible to increase the natural transformation of jing into chi, and chi into
shen, for spiritual growth as well as for good health.
Excessive stress or negativity, improper breathing, poor
diet, overwork, traumas, injuries, bad posture, environmental toxins, and so on
can bring about energy blockages in the human being. These blockages disrupt
the transformative equilibrium of yin and yang and the movement through the
five phases of energy and therefore are the causative root of many of our
health problems.
According to the ancient Taoist masters, although these
blockages can appear anywhere in the body, they are generally rooted in the
abdomen and constrict not only the free flow of energy throughout the organism,
but also the transformation of jing to chi and chi to shen.
These blockages
cause certain organs and tissues to receive too little or too much energy.
Because the organs cannot work properly without the appropriate energy, the
body's various systems, including the immune system, cease to function at
optimum strength, and toxins begin to accumulate in our tissues, which further
aggravates the problem. And because each organ is directly associated with our
perspectives and emotions, our psychological life is also adversely affected.
As a Chi Nei Tsang practitioner, Martin has learned to sense
these blockages in the body along with their associated energy patterns and
work to bring balance and healing through Chi Nei Tsang as well as acupuncture
and other modalities.
Medical Qigong
Medical Qigong "Qi" (pronounced chee), means air,
breath of life, or vital energy that flows through all things in the universe.
"Gong" (pronounced gung, as in lung) means the skill of working with,
or cultivating, self-discipline and achievement.
Marty draws upon his ability
to sense and align energy developed through dedicated study and
self-cultivation, uses qi emission and/or teaches medical qigong exercises and
meditations based upon a differential diagnosis rooted in Chinese medical
theory to restore health and wellness. For more information, please read about
Chi Nei Tsang above.
Shiatsu
This style of Japanese bodywork uses rhythmic compression along energy channels, extensive muscle stretching and joint movement. Shiatsu practitioners use finger and palm pressure on energetic pathways called meridians to balance energy and and bring greater health and well-being within your mind, body and spirit.
